Why does it take a long time for Harry Potter to fall in love with Ginny?

Because what keeps a story interesting is conflict and tension. What fun would it be if Harry hadn't had his first bad relationship or if Ginny hadn't been playing the field and making him jealous? It generally creates a really flat story when your love interests get together right away.
