How much can I make as a taxi driver in Los Angeles? And the difference between day and night shift?

I drove a taxi in NYC for 3 days and then drove in Los Angeles for 2 days. I didn't make much money, the reason being I didn't know where the prime pickup spots were. Furthermore, as a rookie, I was stuck working the night shift. The advent of the gps, however, has now given me renewed confidence.
