Ties on baby hats, good or bad?

I'm learning to knit hats for newborns and babies, and have seen patterns that call for crocheted ties and ones that don't. I don't have any babies, and it's been a long time since I've been around one, so I thought I'd ask people who deal with babies and their clothes. Would you rather have a baby hat that you can tie under the chin, or one without dangling ties?
