What kind of diet should i try to gain muscle and lose fat?

i see so many conflicting diets: high-carb and low-fat, high protein and fat but low carb (atkins), only meat diets, only fruit diets, only veggie diets! i honestly don't know what to try for my goals. should i go with atkins? im 14 by the way
