How can I grow great strawberries?

I live in Zone 7, and this is my first time trying to grow strawberries. I've had a few so far, and they are tiny, about the size of a dime. They are fully formed, perfect little miniature strawberries. They're pretty tart too. I've let them ripen on the plant. I tried Miracle Grow. Is there a certain ph the soil should be? Is there any way to grow good, larger strawberries? Is my zone just not a strawberry zone?
